How though, do you manage the individual franchises? A little arithmetic which is obvious but worth repeating. There are an average of 20 working days in a month. With 20 franchisees, that means you can dedicate only part of one day each month to each franchisee – even if that is just trying to pin down the individual for a phone conversation. If your network gets to 30, 50, 100 – well, you get the picture. As your network grows, you might have to add to your management team or invest in bespoke technologies just to deal with this aspect of your operations. These are both excellent solutions to the problems of managing a network but can be expensive to introduce and typically involve further investment as your network grows.  

Most of the franchise businesses we have worked with struggle to manage their networks effectively while keeping the accompanying overheads low (both technological and financial). This applies equally to the franchisees – they also need to manage their responsibilities to the franchise head office without it becoming an overbearing or expensive admin chore.”
